The exhibition offers visitors two sides of the same coin. On one side, the orientalist view of painting at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries through great masters such as Fortuny, Sorolla, Benlliure, Lluís and Francesc Masriera, Sánchez Barbudo or Agrasot, among other key artists in this theme. On the other side of the coin, the expeditionary monk Father Ubach, a documentarian of reality who, distrustful of the specular games of intermediate sources, directs his steps to Sinai and the geography of the Exodus, the first Great Journey.
The journey is configured as the transformation of the traveler himself. The East, in the Western gaze, always refers to the other. Therefore, from this journey, we should expect the transformation of the Western self. We must ask ourselves whether the change has already occurred, or if the West has not yet reached the end of this journey. Then, we should question where we are on the path.
